How To Foster A Positive Mindset On A Budget
Did you know your mindset not only affects your emotions, but also your physical and mental health? What you believe about yourself is what you will manifest into the world in both a physical way and with your energy. By embracing a positive mindset you can change the course of your life in a positive, healthy way. The best part is that fostering a positive mindset can be done on a budget!
How to Have a Positive Mindset
We all want to do what we can to feel good within ourselves. Our minds are powerful tools and because of that, our actions are often controlled by how we feel and what we are thinking. If you are not feeling too great right now, there are many things you can do to be proactive with your mental health. But some people assume that this means expensive therapies or other medicated options which don’t always have to be the case. You can change the way you think and feel and have a more positive mindset without it affecting your bank balance.
There is nothing that can undermine a positive mindset than debt. So it is important to find ways to positively impact your mental health, and your mindset, without spending more than you have.
Are you ready to harness your own inner power through changing your mindset? Here are some simple, budget friendly and free, ways to foster a positive mindset.
Daily Positive Affirmations
If you have never practiced daily positive affirmations, it can be a powerful tool for altering your mindset in a temporary way, but also becomes your default over time. Positive affirmations don’t require anything other than the ability to speak to yourself. Speaks words of power, truth, love and conviction about your own worth. Meditation
One of the first things you could try would be meditation. Some people are unsure about what to do when it comes to meditation at first, but actually, there are some guided ones that you can try. This is where you are advised what to do and the next steps to take. There are many apps that you can try that will help you get into the habit of meditation. Making it part of your routine will help you to have a more positive mindset. All you are doing is focusing on your breathing and clearing your mind, helping you to feel calmer and happier. Mediation is great if you struggle with stress and anxiety.
Gridding
One of my favourite and most powerful ways to meditate is to work with my crystals in a way known as crystal gridding. The best part of this is that you do not need anything special. You don’t even need to have a crystal collection. You can go for a walk and use rocks you find along the way to make a grid on a fallen log. I have a collection of river rocks in my front garden that I love to form into different grids. Simply place them in a pattern, using intention and thought into the designs you form. Set your intentions for love, positivity, self care and joy. And let your grid help you manifest your desires.
Tip: If you do want to get into crystal gridding in a more formal way, Cave and Canyon is my go to for gridding. She has the most beautiful grids and crystals. Many of which don’t cost a fortune.
Moon Salutation Yoga
Taking a few moments every day to work through a yoga salutation can do so much for your mindset and your physical health. The Moon Salutation is a great one to start with. Learn how to do the Moon Salutation and download our free guide so you can work it into your daily routine and start feeling more positive.
Exercise
Exercise is another great way to help you when it comes to your mindset. It produces those natural endorphins that will help you to feel good. Exercising regularly doesn’t mean you have to head to the gym or pay for an expensive membership, you can simply exercise from home. There are many free workouts that you can do from the comfort of your living room. From yoga, to walking and hiking, to yardwork.
My favourite is to get outdoors, connect with nature and go on walks or hikes away from the busyness of life. There is something about being in nature that makes exercise more of a spiritual experience, rather than just the physical activity.
Making a point of being more active will help you to feel more energized which can have a positive effect on your mindset. This sort of exercise doesn’t need to cost you a thing.
A Gratitude Journal
A lovely way to help you feel happier and have a more positive mindset is to start a gratitude journal. This means you are actively taking some time to write down or make a note of digitally some of the things that you have been grateful for that day. It could be as simple as a hot cup of coffee or managing to hit a deadline you have been worried about. The more specific you are, and the more you can feel grateful for, the happier and more positive you will be. It costs you only your time to consider what you are truly grateful for, but it can do amazing things for your mindset. Learn how to start a Gratitude Journal here.
Free Content
We often don’t realize that there is a lot of free content that we can utilize that can help us to feel better and focus on our mindset. Here are a couple of suggestions.
Listen to podcasts
If you are more of an audio person then you may want to start listening to podcasts. You can listen to these through many different platforms, and they are on all sorts of topics. However, you may find that there are a lot that are focused on how you feel and mental health. From interviews with celebrities who share how they improve their mindset to normal people talking about their experiences and tips. There is something for people from all walks of life.
Read online blogs
Another great way to utilize free content is to look online. There is a world of blogs out there, (like this one!) on all sorts of topics. Find ones that explore topics that interest you. Even if it is just something you have dreamed about, explore them virtually for free, and see how your passions and happiness grow!
Think about what you consume
It is important that you also think about the things that you consume. We often don’t associate our diets and what we drink with our mental health, but having more energy and feeling better on the inside can have a positive effect on how you feel in your mind. Here are some of the things to consider.
Avoid caffeinated drinks
Caffeinated drinks are often an option if you are feeling a little low on energy, but they can actually be counterproductive. The more caffeine you have in your system, the more your feelings and emotions can be heightened in a negative way. It can increase stress and anxiety feelings instead of calming you. I gave up coffee and soda pops years ago. Now I drink only teas and water. It has made a huge difference in my overall health.
Cut out the alcohol
Alcohol is a depressant and while we can associate it with a good time, it sometimes can have a negative effect on how you feel. If you do enjoy an alcoholic drink try and reduce how often you consume. When you do have a drink, do it with intention and celebration. Take your time to enjoy the drink and keep it to just one that you savour.
Increase your intake of water
We sometimes don’t realize how great water can be for our mental health. Not only does it help to feel hydrated, but increased water intake can have a positive effect on energy levels and the quality of sleep we have. Helping us to feel better mentally.
Balanced diet
Also what you consume in your diet can have either a positive or negative effect on your mindset. The more fruit and vegetables you have, the more energized you will feel. A diet full of junk will have you experiencing sugar highs and lows.
Baking and cooking
In recent years I have discovered the power of my inner kitchen witch. I have a LOT of issues with food, and by learning how to bake and cook I’ve discovered that I can eat a lot of amazing foods, without feeling ill or having reactions from unwanted additives. Start simple, we have some great recipes here on Forging Magic. Overtime you can find your own power and positivity in the kitchen. Not only will you feel better, but cooking and baking your own food can save a lot of money. Win-win!
Use social media in a positive way
Social media is important when it comes to our mindset, so try and use it in a more responsible way. Only follow accounts that make you feel good and try and limit the amount of screen time you have. This will help you to only digest content that helps you mentally instead of hinders it.
One of the most powerful things you can do is turn off notifications on your phone, and set your phone to enter a sleep mode every evening. Forced time away from your phone can do powerful things for your mindset.
Surround yourself with people that make you feel good
Finally, make sure you surround yourself with people that make you feel good. You want friends and family members to support you and not bring you down. I have often been told, “You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends. So choose wisely.”. Our ‘family of choice’ is so important to our own mental health.
Take the challenge by implementing just one or two of these ideas, and see how fostering a positive mindset alters the world around you. We all have a special inner power to change ourselves and the world around us with our energy. With a positive mindset, you can affect change that will fill your journey with more happiness, joy and peace. All without affecting your bank balance.
